Back to the classical approach - the first spa facility was created in the spirit of architectural modernism during the "Golden Era" of Karlovy Vary, before the First World War.
The series of Castle Colonnades was built in the heart of the spa town, within the area of the most valuable mineral springs. One of the fundamental ideas of the building work was to link the colonnade near the Upper Castle Spring with the Market Colonnade and to build a dignified home for the "Patron of the Springs", who, over the centuries, had watched over all the natural curative resources of the town.
Architect Bedrich Ohmann won the tender to carry out the project in 1909 and the Castle Colonnade was built in the years 1911 - 1913 in accordance with his plans. This building had remained virtually unchanged up until the reconstruction and adaptation commenced this year. Ohmann's mastership in the application of different styles was further confirmed in this building as the upper part of the building contains elements of classical architecture. This symbolised one of the characteristic features of classical spa treatment in Karlovy Vary. Whilst all the basic architectural elements will be preserved, basic reconstruction is being carried out on the building as whole. This will be completed during the course of next year. The colonnade is being adapted into a facility for comprehensive spa treatment, which will be called the Castle Baths.
The main function of the Castle baths is to bring about a return to traditional Karlovy Vary spa treatment. During the golden era visitors to the Karlovy Vary spa took comfort, atmosphere and individual care for granted. These attributes and a great deal more will return to Karlovy Vary, thanks to the Castle Baths.
The following makes the Castle Baths different from all the other spa facilities in the town:
- A return to the time-tested tradition of Karlovy Vary spa treatment in one balneotherapy center where clients are provided comprehensive care, including maximum use of water from the original Karlovy Vary thermal springs.
- The most valuable asset of Castle Baths - a pool with thermal mineral water (the only one of its type in the Czech Republic)
- Relaxation in the health pool will await everyone as an additional procedure and this will be free of charge
- Individual approach to clients
- Every client will undergo the daily procedures prescribed during a two-hour visit
- Castle Baths will make use of two of their own springs (the Upper and Lower Castle Springs)
- Unique surroundings formed by natural rocks and architectural modernism from beginning of the 20th century
- Direct control of treatment by the "Patron of the Springs"
- State-of-the-art medical technology
- And in addition a surprise for everyone...
From the very beginning the centre of the whole building has been the monumental stone relief of the Patron of the Springs, the work of Viennese sculptor V. Hejda - the ruler and guard of all Karlovy Vary springs. The fact that this mysterious figure will be resurrected in the year 2001 is not only good news for spa guests having reatment at the Castle Baths, but is also good news for everyone that lives in or visits Karlovy Vary.
Original, unique, magical, wonderful... and yet accessible and open to all!
